Incase you missed TWEEN at The Octagon here’s what I contributed to a night of animated gif raucous. A Shawn Kemp animated gif!
Shawn Kemp was my childhood hero. Drawing him was like hopping back on my red Huffy for some jumps. His career took a big hit with the 98-99 NBA lockout. He got a bunch of women pregnant and didn’t take real good care of himself. (may have eatten a lot of cheeseburgers) He couldn’t function without basketball. When the NBA came back after the lockout he wasn’t the same and was traded around and eventually dropped from professional basketball.
Through hard work and some positive life changes he’s been getting back in shape and struggling to make it back to the NBA for a few years. To Shawn - we’ll never forget your high flying acrobatic single-handed power struggle against the dominant reign of the Chicago Bulls.
Studying Shawn Kemp has taught me to appreciate the little things. The magic that is happening when the big movements are in front of everyone’s eyes and something smaller and more crafty is taking place just outside that circle. Shawn Kemp was known for high flying dunks and incredible shot blocks. His vertical outreached Jordan by a substantial amount. He was an incredible showmen.
I pour out a bit of Old Style to you, Shawn Kemp. Specialist of craft to a point of self-destruction. Cheers.
